Kristen Liu-Wong: Dueling Banjos

We love Kristen Liu-Wong’s work. It’s always fresh and provocative not to mention, morbidly funny. Which is why we took a break from work today to surf her website in search of some new material.

Just so happened to stumble across this video she made, Dueling Banjos, ft. Jed and Lucas.

Enjoy.

Cake Sculpture Artists Recreate An Art Masterpiece With Chocolate [Video]

Cake Vermeer Creation

Talk about a more tangible way to ingest art.  With so many artistic interpretations of Vermeer’s “Girl With a Pearl Earring” floating out there on the web, it’s hard to impress.  But check out what cake sculpture artists Cory Polman and Olivia Bohnhoff created for an art-history-buff client in their LA-based shop Bohnhoff & Kent.

The painting served as inspiration for their signature chocolate sculpture filled with ‘cake’ which they deliciously refer to as a “gourmet stuffed candy bar”.  Watch the video and amaze yourself with the beautiful translucent layers of color they’re able to paint onto the sculpture.  The big reveal will make you wonder if you could bring yourself to eat such a masterpiece.

Ai Weiwei – Dumbass

ai wei wei dumbass video still

Am I the only one just discovering that Ai Weiwei made rock video about his 2011 81 day illegal detainment? If you don’t speak Chinese and like me would like to know what’s being said – join the club. I’d put the lyrics here but Weiwei’s popping off the f bombs on this one. So as not to offend the sensitive, everyone just go to weiwei’s site where you’ll find the lyrics in English & Chinese.

What else need be said… just watch. Oh wait…check out this NYT article with weiwei thought’s on the video.

Wangechi Mutu + Santigold Collaborate in Art Video

Artist, Wangechi Mutu and music’s art-child Santigold collab on this 8 min art video, The End of Eating Everything – it’s part of Mutu’s current exhibit A Fantastic Journey being shown at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University until July 21st, 2013.

The animated video features Santigold as half cyborg existing in her own ecosystem with a electro-industrial score by Mutu that creates a haunting vibe to echo the artists intent.

In Mutu’s own words, “The End of Eating Everything is a visual conversation about our consumption…it speaks to our empty artistic environment, when art is supposed to be something that keeps renewing us culturally.”

The End of Eating Everything was co-released by both Nasher & MOCA TV.
